practice, practice, practice!

anna and shawn's wedding

Pete's sister Anna got married last weekend OUTSIDE in this hot weather! We were blessed to have a huge shady tree that all the guests were seated under and the ceremony went pretty quick as it was such a hot day!

Anna was a beautiful bride!
Pete and Anna have just a slight resemblance to each other. :)
And our little man endured the heat! He was so cute in his button down shirt! This was the day he finally started to drink water from his sippy cup (he has always refused!). He went through like almost 8 ounces of water during the ceremony and another 4 on the way home!
Congratulations to Anna and Shawn!

beating the heat

It has been HOT here in St. Louis for the past few weeks or so - I mean REALLY HOT. We have been under an excessive heat warning for at least two weeks and they just keep extending it because the temp is staying in the mid to upper 90s with a heat index of like 110-115 each day.

So because of the heat we have been had to be creative to find ways to beat the heat and stay cool with our little man. Ethan and I try to head out early each morning to spend a little time outside on a walk or run before the temps really get too bad (what's funny is that at 7 or 8am the temp is already usually around 80 something with a heat index already in the 90s).

We have been spending a lot of time indoors, as you might imagine. Ethan has been doing a lot of "walking practice." We like to say that he is now officially walking (he can take like 15 steps going back and forth between me and Pete) with such excitement that he prefers to almost run which results in a slight stopping problem - he usually crashes into us each time. But, slowly but surely he is getting it!

We have discovered a fun pool in a town nearby that has Toddler Time each morning and so we have been enjoying some splash time at least once a week.
Last week Ethan and I had lunch at a local coffee shop/cafe that has a fun play area for kidlins. It was fun just to change things up a bit!
And finally we have been spending time each Wednesday at the Botanical Gardens with our moms group. We try and get there early enough to do a couple laps around the garden and then let the kids enjoy the Children's Garden that has a great shady splash pad. Ethan has LOVED it! These are some of my favorite pics of the summer of Ethan and his friend Halle - taken by Halle's mom Kristin at the splash pad. So cute!

Ethan sneezing

Ethan has recently started to mimic mama's sneezes. If you listen closely you can hear his little "sneezes." He thinks it's pretty funny. :)

father's day

This was Pete's second official Father's day, although last year Ethan was only 2 weeks old and so this year we were able to do a little bit more! We started off the morning with a gift for Dad. Ethan was excited to help open it up.
We made a special picture for Dad of Ethan's footprints that he could hang in his office at work.
Then we took Ethan to his very first Cardinal's game. Things went much better than our Blues game attempt, especially since Pete got us club seats!
This is probably one of my new favorite pictures.
We stayed at the game for a few innings and then headed to Pete's parents house for a Father's Day BBQ. All in all it was a great day. By the time we got home Ethan was totally exhausted, he could hardly keep his eyes open.
Our family sure is blessed to have my sweet Pete as Ethan's Papa. I am so thankful that God has blessed me with such a wonderful husband and to see how he has grown to be such loving, goofy, tender and strong dad to Ethan over the last year has been such a joy. Happy Father's Day Pete!

the week ethan became a toddler

We just spent almost two weeks in Minnesota enjoying our summer vacation (hence the lack of blog posts recently). Our first stop was a long weekend in the Twin Cities staying at the Haglund Inn (Uncle Rob, Auntie Gail and Cousins Jack, Josh and Grace were amazing hosts!) while Pete worked to get autographs at the NHL Draft that was hosted in St. Paul.

We got to spend a lot of time with the cousins just hanging out.

Cousin Janelle even stopped by and got to spend quality time with the little man.
After a fun weekend in the Cities we headed up north to Grandpa Todd and Grandma Bonnie's house for a relaxing week at the lake! We spent our days outside, by the lake and hanging out around the house!
Ethan also got to see what it was like to go swimming in the lake for the first time! Ethan LOVED it!!!
We celebrated Grandpa Todd's 50th birthday too.
He was pretty excited about the new leather jacket he got from all of us (to complement his motorcycle that he rides to work).
Lindsay and I took a ride to the mine where my brother Corey operates a huge crane. He was pretty excited to show us his domain and let us sit in the driver seat even though we were both pretty freaked out (especially after he turned the crane ON!)
The best part about our vacation is that Ethan experienced a major growth spurt in all sorts of areas. I've tried hard to remember all the new things that he learned over vacation:

He started pulling himself in his pack and play, and subsequently pulling himself up on everything!
He has learned how to "roar" like a lion.
He says Grandpa (da-da) and Grandma (na-na).
He learned how to cluck his tongue.
He kind of says dog or duck (da).
Now that he is pulling himself up all the time he has started to seat himself instead of falling backward in timber fashion. (Much to mama's relief!)
He learned how to climb the stairs.
He is so curious about the world around him! Here he is with some treasures he discovered in Grandma's cupboard.
He also got his first haircut, sort of. I trimmed some long hairs that were growing over his ears.
He also got to go for his first boat ride!
So basically we came back home to St. Louis with a full blown toddler! It is so fun to see Ethan growing and discovering all sorts of new things. Our last day in Minnesota was the 4th of July. We got a chance to just hang out by the lake, relax and enjoy our last day of vacation!
